So I (Kazoo) am pretty much the laziest fuck ever, thus here’s some stuff that happened since the last post:

During the summer of 2012 we played a handful of shows which were all pretty neat in their own special ways, from getting cussed out in note by a (now defunct) restaurant’s owner, experiencing unbearable sound reinforcement, and playing a few songs on a local variety show.
Sean left the band briefly to pursue a semester-long term in the University of California DC program, which allows students from UC campuses to study in our nation’s capital city and pursue internships in DC-related businesses and organizations, including working for congressmen and what-have-you. While he was gone, our good friend Adam Trelatsky took up bass duties for the one show we played in December.
When Sean returned he took back his role as bassist while Adam moved to keyboards for a brief while before switching to guitar. That’s right. Three guitars. Radiohead, motherfucker.
The latest show which we just played (with Fresno space-rockers Light Thieves, who are amazing and Rademacher side-project College Kids, who are amazing) was the loudest yet.
Unfortunately, I forgot to comp Adam back a Doritos Locos Taco, and he got so mad at me that he left the band and we’re a four-piece again.

Aaaaaaand now we’re up to speed. Please pay attention to the fact that we’re doing barely anything at all.

New songs and more shows in 2013. There, I said it.

Feeling Gravity’s Pull has taken a little time off for summer vacation. Now we’re back.

We’ll be playing this Saturday at our regular haunt The Partisan Tavern of Merced, CA, opening for Homebrew and Destructo Bunny and with That’s A Paddlin’ and Chris Ward opening for us.

Cover is $5.00, Show starts at 9pm. 21+ only w/ valid ID. We go on 3rd, so roughly about 10pm.

Anyway, here’s the poster for our next show at The Partisan. It was drawn by local artist and all-around awesome duder Eddie Rux. We’ll be opening up for Merced rock vets Deriva as well as playing after City Psychology from Modesto. We are two stoked.

Feeling Gravity’s Pull currently has two official dates planned for March and April.

Our first Fresno show (and by extension our first out-of-town show) will be on Friday March 23 at The Babylon Club. We will be opening for SixHands Mouth, who opened for us on our album release party in January, so we’re glad to be returning the favor. Show starts at 9pm and I’m gonna assume it’ll be 21+.

On Saturday April 21, we take The Partisan’s stage again in the middle slot between Deriva (Merced rock vets) and City Psychology (Modesto indie pop upstarts). It’ll be one continuous stock of rock and we’re excited to be playing. 9pm start, 21+ w/ ID, $5.00 cover.

We also have an “unofficial” show going on tomorrow but you’re just gonna have to ask Kazoo about that, since it’s secret.

Pocket Jury writes some nice words about Not Since the Accident

A quartet from Merced, CA named after an REM song who sound only incidentally like the Athens, GA band. Choosing to be named for the opening song on REM’s difficult third album, an infamously contentious record amongst music hobbyists is a neat joke in itself. Most of the songs on their promising debut album Not Since The Accident fall somewhere between the anthemic stomping of Chapel Hill based band Superchunk and the sublime classic rock leanings of criminally forgotten Missoula, MT band Silkworm. Although it’s not particularly hard to guess their influences, it’s impressive the way that FGP never become derivative in an egregious manner. On the one hand, it’s certainly an album which showcases a band finding its feet in terms of recording but FGP also have a musical palette which is surprisingly mature considering their average age. It speaks volumes that the band have arrived with more than a handful of excellent songs and you can sense that they have an enormous amount of potential. You can count on a blind butcher’s hand the number of college bands who could genuinely evoke the sonic aesthetics of Crazy Horse at the peak of their seventies pomp but FGP manage the feat several times on one record. ‘Heavy Years’ and the title track are bristling with the tension and brilliantly shambolic minimalism of classic Neil Young. The songs are all there already, they just need a little bit of guidance in the studio. Once they have that, it’s hard to see how they won’t make a truly great album. As it is, they’ve already made a very good one.

Basic tracks for our debut recording have been completed. Following vocals and other cares, we hope to put this sucker out come Q1 2012.
We will be booking shows for the beginning part of this year as well. No details on that yet but rest assured, rock will go off.
Is McDonald’s still selling McRib? Inquiring minds (read: Kazoo) would like to know.

Well, we played our fourth show last night, and our first with Charlie. It was a wonderful spectacle of rock music and we’d like to thank everyone who came and enjoyed it.

We’ve rolled through my special thanks list a few times on other places, so here it is quick: Tom Price/DLM, RC, The Skylights, Ernesto Mora for lending us the use of his hand recorder, and the staff of Playhouse Merced/Black Box Theater.

For those of you who want to hear the show, youtube evidence may be coming up very soon, but if you want something sooner, we have a bootleg up on our Bandcamp page. The quality is not great but it’s nice to have something that represents the whole band somewhat.

As for us, our immediate plans are going to go towards recording. Come the next week, we’ll set up in the practice room along with an assortment of microphones and such and hit record. Depending on the quality that the recordings produce we could have either demos or something that could make it on an official release. More shows might be in the near future but officially, nothing is planned or booked yet. Still, keep your eyes open, since we’d really like to have at least one or two more shows under our belts before the new year.

Friday, October 28 at the Black Box Theatre (behind Playhouse Merced) will be our first show in approximately eight months. We will be playing before the debut of The Skylights, which is the new side project of Rick from Deriva, another Merced band. As for our part, we’ll be debuting some new songs (although if you’ve not heard us yet, all our songs are consequently new) as well as our new drummer, Charlie. Get excited.

So Feeling Gravitys Pull will be playing a set on March 5 on the MERCO Cycling Classic Hairpin Stage. Here’s a few reasons why you should go:

We’ll be playing some new songs.
It’s a free, all-ages, open-air show.
There’s a beer garden.
A bunch of really rad bands, including Rademacher, are playing too.
Cycling, I guess.

If you want to take a listen to what we sound like, here you go. Currently the only thing on there is the five-song EP that Chris recorded before the band formed. At least four of the five songs (if not the whole thing) has become part of our repertoire.

Feeling Gravitys Pull will be playing its second show ever, its first of 2011, and its first at Merced’s premier drinking and live music venue The Partisan on January 12, 2011 as part of the weekly Wednesday “The Hump” series helmed by DJ LeLe. Doors will be at 9:00pm and we should go on around 9:30pm. Before and after our performance, DJ LeLe will be spinning classic Alt-Rock/Indie/Punk tunes from the sound booth. More details to come and are subject to change et cetera. 21+ only, no cover. Come enjoy some rock music perhaps?
